baby update

okay... so its about time for a post already. The baby did NOT wait until November 18th -- I had him on November 2nd, and its a good thing I had him when I did, as he was 10lbs, 3oz! He's quite the little chunk. At almost 3 mos. now, he just shy of 14 lbs, and is 24 inches long. :) He's already outgrown some of his 3 months clothes, however, and fits comfortably in some 6 mos. stuff.

We named him Clay (Nick wanted to name him after a Cleveland Browns's player), and he is a real sweetheart. :)

Here's a picture of him. :) ----> That's at 2 weeks.

Labor was fun... I was developed pre-eclampsia, and so had to be induced. Becuase my blood pressure was so high, my feet and legs were swollen to about twice the normal size, and I looked like two-ton-tillie. :P It was interesting. My mom was standing there with the camera, and of course she has shots of me in my lovely state. Grrrrr... why do moms do that? Worse yet, she sent them out to people! Oh well... you kind of lose your pride when you can no longer bend over to tie your own shoes because your stomach is too big... and you get stuck in the bathtub when you try to take a bath. So much for relaxing in the tub... :P

But back to labor. Me being difficult by nature, nothing happened, and after 24 hours of unimaginable fun (insert sarcasm here), the doctor cheerfully announced that he was going to perform a ceserean section on me. After they got the baby out, I felt much better.

The irony of this, is that I had intended to have a totally natural delivery, complete with the absense of pain killers. Hmmmm... babies have a away of changing things... they do what they want. Ah well, I didn't have my natural experience (which people tell me wasn't any great loss), but after Clay was born, I didn't care. He was so beautiful and wonderful, and lovely.

I still look at him and am amazed. He's so perfect. The miracle of life is so amazing. It happens all the time, yet it never ceases to be a wonder for someone.

Nick is having fun being a new dad. :) He loves to play with him. He takes tons of pics - he's definately the proud papa.

We are gradually getting settled into a routine of sorts, and settling into the role of parenting. It's quite fun, actually. He's smiling now, and he's so cute... but that's his job -- being adorable as only babies can be. ;)

Here he is with his protector, our Malamute.
