my adventures... or lack of them

Wednesday, October 06, 2004

Well, we got the cupboards up today... should be able to get the counter and cabinets in tomrrow. I HOPE we'll get the floor done this week. :) I'm debating right now whether or not I should put a coat of paint on tonight when I get home -- I think I'll just go to bed though, I'm pretty worn out.

Got the tv and computer today!! But of course, even that wasn't complete without a little bit of adventure...

Becky and I carried the tv in (which was huge, since Nick picked it out), and it was quite heavy. It was a 27incher. Anyway, Dad had moved the paint cans for some reason, so that they were directly in the path of the door, and I was trying to walk backwards and carry the t.v..... you guessed it. I tripped on the cans, did a dance and tried to hold the t.v. - well, that didn't work so well, and we ended up dropping it, but luckily it didn't fall that hard, and was still in the box and was pretty well protected with foam and stuff.

But it was cause for initial panic. I think its okay though. I actually didnt' have time to check it before I had to dash off to work -- today was another crazy day. Got up around 9 to finish priming and then dad came over and we started hanging cabinets and then Becky came over and helped. Then 12:30 rolled around and Dad had to go to work and Becky and I ran to town to pick up the tv and computer that Nick had ordered online at Best Buy. I like that... I don't have to pick it out or feel guilty cuz I spent too much... LOL

So anyway, we got back to the house, noticed that those dang asian beetles (that are a result of the DNR's prime stupidity) had come in full force and were covering the side of the house. Unfortunately, I had not yet covered the basement door with plastic (that i was supposed to do BEFORE the wonderful little wonders of nature came) and so they'll find a way into the house now...

All of y'all from Wisconsin know exactly what I'm talking about with those asian beetles, but for the rest of you, I shall enlighten:

The DNR were trying to get rid of a pest, so they shipped these asian beetles in to the area and introduced them to the environment. Apparently, the beetles were predators of whatever the pest was (I can't remember what it was now). Well, anyway, Wisconsin is known for its cold winters, so the DNR, in its infinate wisdom, decided that they would integrate MORE beetles than was suggested because they thought they might not survive our winters. Ha!!!! AS it turns out, the things can survive in -50 F temps!!! And they don't drown either. At least they're not like Gremlins -- they don't reproduce when they get wet. Oh well, they don't have any problem with THAT either...

And, another thing the DNR hadn't bothered to research was their breeding habits, and the beetles rose to that challenge magnificantly... The have multiplied so fast that they are literally EVERYWHERE -- they're a pest themselves! I swear to God, my house looks red right now. Oh, and the little buggers bite, too. Nasty little things, not at all like their cousin, the lady bug, of which they are deceptively similar.

Okay, I'll stop the science lesson on bugs...

Hopefully, I can get the plastic up tomrrow, and they won't be too bad this winter. Nick asked me if I could get a can of bug killer. hehehehehe... I'd have to buy about 1,000 to even make a dent, I told him, and I think he's rather worried about coming here now...

(It's really not that bad, luv! I just don't like the things... but they'll eventually go away.) :P

Well, another fun day is almost to a close and I must bid you all a fond farewell...

Ciao!!

happy, joy, joy...

Today smells of all things wonderful... Okay, so we still haven't managed to get the walls painted; the wall plastering project is going a bit slow. I was going to work on them this morning, but remembered I have physical therapy for my back pain today. So I had to race to that, and it actually went pretty well. He showed me some excercises that actually helped with the pain and should help. I just started, and he said next week, we'll try some other stuff. I'm looking forward to it; my back has been hurting for so long (with the tumors on my spine), and I think the PT will be a relief. So, armed with my excercise instructions, I was feeling pretty good afterwards... 'til I checked my phone messages on my cell phone.

Dad told me to call work (the assisted living place), whereupon I was told that I had missed a class that I had been scheduled for (but not told about). They decided since I didn't show up for the class that it was "no-show" and said I had voluntarily resigned. Which, actually, didn't upset me too much, because I was wrestling with the idea of quitting there anyway. I just didn't know if I should, or if I should try and tough it out.

It's been crazy there -- they've gone through three residence directors in just six months, and with the constant changing of leadership there is alot of confusion at the moment. I've been a bit stressed with that job. Heheh... Nick will tell you that! It wasn't like the place was being run by aliens or anything out of a horror movie, but we were constantly being informed of changed regulations or procedures and you never knew when something was going to be changed. And the schedule was a nightmare -- it was never permanant, and I never knew when it would be changed, or if I could actually plan anything. I missed Jen's wedding last weekend because of it (no one wanted to work for me). LOL, knowing that job, I'd no doubt be scheduled and expected to come in on the day of my wedding. I can hear it now; "But you're not getting married until 5:30, you should be able to work the 7am to 3pm shift!"

Okay, well, at least I can still go back and visit the residents -- because I will miss them (but not much else). So it doesn't bother me too much. It would if I couldn't see the residents any more; I really care about them and like them.

Other than that... I should be able to finish up the little bit of plastering I have to do and then put the primer on, and *hopefully* add one coat of paint on tonight. :) It would be nice to get the walls finished tomrrow. :) Dad is gonna help me put the cupboards in tomrrow and I don't know when we'll get the floor done, but am hoping it is soon. :)

Well, work (my real job) is calling me, so I gotta go!

Ciao!

okay, so I spoke to soon...

Um... the hardwood floors in the kitchen were not that great, and a big chunk of hardwood was missing and had been replaced by plywood. Nice. So we'll have to put sub-flooring down and stick with the tile. :P

BUT, we got all the wallpaper off today, and got the carpet up in the kitchen area. We'll get the subflooring and tile down first and then we'll put the stove and fridge and dishwasher and counters back... (finally), and then we'll start attacking the dining room. Then... after THAT's done, we do the master Bedroom floor. And then (and only then) can I take a break. lol. Nick says not to overdo it. But I want to get it done so that it looks nice again, that's all. :D

IT will be fun when its all done... By the way, the lawn needs to be mowed... any volunteers? :P
